Ramos dominates Perez, wins technical decision

Undefeated lightweight Casey “The Wizard” Ramos (22-0, 5 KOs) of Austin, Texas, won an eight round technical decision over veteran Jonathan “Popeye” Perez (35-14, 27 KOs) on Saturday night at the Burbank Marriott Events Center in Burbank, California. After to a slow start, Ramos used the jab while Perez attempted to work his way in. Measuring with the jab in round two, Ramos dropped Perez with a counter left hook in round two. Ramos stuck to the jab and fired away one-two combinations in round three as Perez kept coming. In round four, a clash of heads caused a cut over Ramos’ right eye. The doctor took a look at Ramos’ cut and let him continue. Halfway through in the sixth round, Ramos connected with a huge right to start the round. He continued to outbox Perez with blood flowing from the cut. In round eight, referee Raul Caiz took Ramos to the corner and the ring doctor determined Ramos couldn’t continue. The bout went to the scorecards where all three judges scored the bout 80-71.

Unbeaten South El Monte super lightweight Arnold Barboza (11-0, 4 KOs) won a hard fought six round unanimous decision over Max Becerra (8-2-2, 5 KOs) of Vacaville, California. The left hand by Barbosa found its mark in the opening round as he tagged Becerra continuously. Things got a litte rough when Becerra hit Barboza after the referee separated them. It was a fast-paced chess match in round three. Barboza landed a left momentarily staggering Becerra early in round four. Later in the round, Barboza connected with a hard left hook but Becerra returned the favor connecting with his left hook. Sticking the jab in round five Barboza backed up Becerra who continued trade with him. The sixth and final round had everyone on their feet as the fighters traded away in the center of the ring. Judges scored the bout 60-54, 60-54, and 59-55 for Barbosa.

Sacramento featherweight Guy Robb (18-1, 8 KOs) stopped Carlos Padilla (15-4-1, 9 KOs) of Columbia in round four of a scheduled eight rounder. Robb stalked Padilla early on in the fight. Robb pressed behind the jab in round two. Continuing to be the aggressor in round three Robb outworked Padilla but the Colombian fighter began connecting on the inside. A left hook by Robb in round four staggered Padilla. Robb backed him into the corner and scoring a knockdown. Padilla managed to finished the round, but couldn’t come out for round five.

Colombian lightweight contender and former world title challenger Miguel Marriaga (22-1, 18 KOs) hammered out an eight round unanimous decision over Filipino Adones Aguelo (24-13-2, 16 KOs). In a competitive bout, Marriaga and Aguelo exchanged heavy punches in round four as Aguelo backed Marriaga to the ropes with a right but Marriaga stood in there trading. In the second half of the fight, Aguelo pressured Marriaga who was boxing at a distance. In the eighth and final round, Aguelo sensed the urgency urging Marriaga to stand and trade as the Colombian circled the ring sticking the jab. Judges scored the bout 77-75, 77-55 and 79-73 for Marriaga.

Unbeaten Fresno middleweight Joe Louie Lopez (8-0, 5 KOs) scored a third round stoppage over Liam Vaughn (9-3, 2 KOs) of Hollywood by way of Liverpool, England. In round three, Lopez connected with a solid right hand hurting Vaughn. Lopez followed up with a series of big punches as referee Lou Moret stepped in to stop the fight at 1:16.

Hollywood welterweight Zachary “Kid Yamaka” Wohlman (9-2-1, 1 KO) won a four round unanimous decision over Lionel Jimenez (2-10, 2 KOs) of Dallas, Texas. Judges scored the bout 40-36, 40-36, and 39-37.
Middleweight Cesar Hernandez (1-1) of Tracy, California, won a four round unanimous decision over Konstantin Kupianskii (1-1) of Oxnard. Hernandez came out swinging wildly and was the aggressor in the opening round as the tall and lanky Kupianskii measured with the jab. Continuing to press in round two, Hernandez was all over Kupianskii. Referee Raul Caiz Sr deducted a point from the Russian for holding. Judges scored the bout 40-36, 39-36, 39-36.

In the opening bout from the Burbank Marriott Events Center in Burbank, California, super bantamweight Miguel Alcantara (2-0, 2 KOs) of Los Angeles scored a second round knockout over Michael Alcarez (1-9) of Houston. Alcantara teed off Alcaraz from the opening bell and in the second round landed a series of uppercuts that forced referee Dr. Lou Moret to stop the fight at 1:31.
