Full Results from Hollywood, California

After a sellout show just two weeks ago, Hollywood Fight Night was back at the world famous Florentine Gardens in Hollywood, California as IBF #8 lightweight contender Jose Felix Jr. of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico scored a hard fought ten round unanimous decision over Ghana’s Yakubu Amidu in a clash that saw both men on the canvas. The bout was televised nationally on UniMas Solo Boxeo.

Also scoring victories on the card were unbeaten 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Oleksandr Gvozdyk, WBC #12 ranked bantamweight Carlos “Memin” Carlson and unbeaten IBF #3, WBC #8, WBO #12 cruiserweight Murat “Iron” Gassiev.

In the main event, Jose Felix Jr. (30-1-1, 24 KOs) displaying good ring generalship as he built up a lead over the first eight rounds against stalking Yakubu Amidu (21-7-2, 19 KOs). In round nine, Felix continued to pop the jab and then caught Amidu with a counter right sending him to the canvas. Amidu quickly got up and later in the round returned the favor with a huge right uppercut. Felix went down hard and was saved by the bell from further damage. The final round saw Amidu urgently press the action as Felix kept his distance from Amidu’s wild punches. Things got rough at the end with Amidu pushing Felix through the ropes, prompting referee Eddie Hernandez to issued a warning. The chase continued to the final bell. Judges Timothy Hicks and Pat Connolly scored the bout 97-93, while judge Barry Druxman had it 98-92 all for Jose Felix.

Opening up the Solo Boxeo telecast, world rated Tijuana bantamweight Carlos “Memin” Carlson (18-1, 1 KOs) halted fellow Tijuanan Heriberto “Tremendo” Delgado (11-3, 6 KOs) in round four of a scheduled six. Carlson working behind the jab in the opening round while Delgado connected with power shots on the inside, landing a right busting Carlson’s nose. A right hand by Carlson found its mark sending Delgado to the canvas in round two. Delgado got up quickly and landed a huge right late in the round. Working effectively on the inside in round three, Carlson connected with a left hook and continued to land big shots. Carlson stalked Delgado in round four getting inside and landing a crunching left hook that sent Delgado to the canvas for a second time. A left hook to the head finished the job as Delgado went down for the third time. Referee Zachary Young waved it off at 1:43 of round four.

Ukrainian 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Oleksandr Gvozdyk (6-0, 4 KOs) of Oxnard dominated Michael Gbenga (16-20, 16 KOs) of Baltimore for six rounds. Gvozdyk started off working the jab as Gbenga kept his guard up, however a right hand followed by a series of punches connected cornering Gbenga. In rounds two and three, the Ukrainian continued to work the jab keeping Gbenga at a distance. Halfway through in round four, Gvozdyk connected with a combination and later a series of right hands as Gbenga held. In round five Gvozdyk continued to pressure the fading Gbenga. The sixth and final round saw the Ukrainian outwork Gbenga, who hung on to the final bell. All three judges scored the bout 60-54.

Undefeated world rated Russian cruiserweight Murat “Iron” Gassiev (22-0, 16 KOs) scored a second round knockout over Rodney Moore (17-10-2, 7 KOs) of Houston, Texas in a heavyweight bout. A series of right hands by Gassiev dropped Moore, who got up but the Russian continued his attack and knocked down Moore for a second time. Referee Eddie Hernandez reached a ten count at 1:55 of round two.

Canadian middleweight Toronto’s Zsolt Daranyi (4-0, 4 KOs) made quick work of Antonio Neal (3-3, 3 KOs) of Granger, Washington in a scheduled four rounder. Daranyi kept his distance from Neal working the jab, then a crunching right dropped Neal. Neal beat referee Zachary Young’s count, but the Canadian continued his body attack sending Neal to the canvas for a second time and the fight was stopped at 2:12 of round one.
German middleweight Cem Kilic (4-0, 2 KOs) out of the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood knocked out Cole Milani (2-5, 2 KOs) of Oregon in one round in a four round bout. The German came out firing away in the opening round a series of punches by Kilic with Milani up against the ropes forced referee Zachary Young to stop the fight at 1:13 of round one.

Cruiserweight Israel Duffus (8-3, 7 KOs) of Los Angeles scored a bloody sixth round TKO over Carlos Reyes (7-8-1, 5 KOs) of Phoenix, Arizona. A right hand by Duffus sent Reyes to the canvas in the opening seconds of the fight and Reyes got up bleeding from a cut above the left eye. Reyes returned the favor as he scored a knockdown in round two a straight left that sent Duffus to the canvas. With blood streaming from Reyes’s eye, he staggered Duffus again in the closing seconds. Applying the pressure in round three, southpaw Reyes went forward shooting the jab on Duffus. Reyes eye continued to bleed profusely. In round four, Duffus boxed, keeping his distance and landing a solid counter right drawing more blood. Despite the massive bleeding, Reyes fought on. After the ring doctor paid a visit to start round five, Reyes stalked as Duffus continued to box and counter. In the sixth and final round, Reyes pressured as Duffus jabbed aand kept his distance, but a right hand dropped Reyes again and referee Shannon Sands waved off the fight at 1:19 of round six.

In the opening bout from the Florentine Gardens, featherweight Leonardo Chavez (3-1, 3 KOs) of Los Angeles took less than a minute to dispose of Daniel Constantino (0-1) of Compton, California in a scheduled four round bout. A crisp left hook by Chavez floored Constantino. When he got up, Chavez swarmed him with a series of unanswered punches and referee Eddie Hernandez stopped the fight 39 seconds into the first round.

In attendance at ringside was former world champion Israel Vasquez, undefeated super middleweight Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, and undefeated featherweight 2012 Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez. The event was promoted by Top Rank in association with Bash Boxing and the Art of Boxing Promotions.
